Welcome to your first day of digital learning. Today, we will begin the research paper by getting some information about information in the 21st century. It’s actually rather apropos that we are starting our research paper on the first day of our digital learning adventure – much about research has changed over the last few years as a result of digital access to information.
The research paper process is designed in a step-by-step fashion, meaning that you will get the best results (and the highest grade!) if you complete the steps in order. If for some reason you get behind, you need to backtrack to where you left off in the process and start from there – do NOT skip any steps! If you skip any steps, your research paper (and your grade! ☹) are likely to suffer.
Please note that I will separate the daily assignments into a Research section and a Vocabulary section. I will also add additional notes to the end of the day’s assignments. Be sure to read and complete all sections! All assignments are due by 11:59 PM to Turnitin.com. If you are having difficulty meeting this deadline, you need to discuss your situation with me individually and I will help you come up with a solution.
Here’s what you need to do to complete the Day 1 Research assignment:
- First, find the worksheet you received on Friday that is titled “Information Literacy” OR go to the Google drive, in the Writing folder, and download the file titled “Information Literacy Overview.” It is there in both Word and PDF format – pick whichever one works for you better.
- Open the Essay Guide. This is titled “Your Essay and Multimedia Project Guide Ver. 7.pdf” and can be found in both the Writing folder and the main British Lit folder.
- Using the information found on pages 11 – 16 of the Essay Guide, answer the questions on the worksheet. You may do this in digital format, or you may complete the worksheet on paper and upload a picture of your handwritten answers in order to get credit. For questions 12 and 14, you may simply Bold AND Underline your choices if you are completing the worksheet in Word.
- Upload your answers to Turnitin.com.
Finish Unit 9, “Completing the Sentence.”
Othello test: Please remember to finish the Othello test questions. They are due by Tuesday at 11:59 PM; however, I’ve made today’s research assignment rather brief so you will have time today to finish the Othello test. If you were absent on Friday, we will evaluate whether or not you need to take the multiple choice portion of the test once we find out when we will return to the classroom. You need to do the best job you possibly can on the written portion of the test just in case your grade is based on only the written answers. Please note that questions 60, 62, and 63 require quoted, cited evidence from the text (use your charts!!), while question 61 can be answered in one simple sentence.
Contact: My normal online “office hours” will be from 10:30 until noon, Monday thru Friday. However, today will be different because I have a doctor’s appointment at 10:45 AM. I will be available to answer your questions on the assignments from 1:30 until 3:00 today. If you have a question or concern, please email me. If I receive your question within that time period, I will get right back to you. If you send a question after that time period, I WILL respond, but it may be the following day before you get the response. I am investigating a method of online interaction that will allow us to “Chat” in real time. I will let you know as soon as I’ve figured it out.
Assignments: I will post the day’s assignments by 9:30 every morning; however, I will often post them the evening before. If you want to get a “sneak peek” at the next day’s assignment, you will often be able to do that by 10:00 PM on the previous evening.
Have a great day! Stay safe and healthy!
