Go to U1L5A1 and review the summative assessment assignment sheet: Importance of Perspective Beowulf Grendel FA20.pdf. (This file is also in the Anglo-Saxons folder on the Google drive.)
Go to Unit 1 of your Class Notebook and open the Beowulf Details Chart. Open the Beowulf text at https://www.bpi.edu/ourpages/auto/2017/9/13/42764661/beowulf__raffel_translation_.pdf Read “The Monster Grendel” that begins on page 7 of the online text and take notes in the appropriate sections of the Beowulf Details Chart. Note that each detail in the chart must be accompanied by an appropriate citation, using ln. to document one line and lns. to document multiple lines. For example, to record a Sound Imagery detail, put the following in the appropriate block in the chart: “the music range/Loud in that hall” (lns. 3-4). Notice that a slash mark is used when you move from one line to the next to indicate the line break. Also notice that the capitalization must be given EXACTLY as it is in the original text. 1. Go to the Grammar section of your Class Notebook and complete the page titled “63 Run-ons.” It will allow you to type your answers directly on the page.
2. On the Google drive, in the Anglo-Saxons folder, view the presentation titled Kennings and Alliteration and complete the assignment on the next-to-last slide (the slide titled Your Turn!). Put your answers to this assignment on a page you have created in the Unit 1 folder of the Class Notebook titled Kennings (use the + Page tab at the bottom to create the page). 3. Use the access codes posted in the classroom Announcements to join our class in Turnitin.com. 1. First, you need to complete the notes from Friday. In order to complete the assignment, you will need to go to the Google Drive --> Anglo-Saxons folder and get these two files:
British Lit Intro Rev FA20 VL.ppsx British History Background Notes.docx. Start with slide 30 and answer the final questions; then, submit your answers to Friday's assignment. 2. Read about and begin working on the vocabulary journal. The file you need is titled Vocabulary Journal Assignment FA20.pdf and is in the Vocabulary folder on the Google drive as well as in your classroom Resources. The first vocabulary journal will be due 1 Sep. 2020. 3. View the presentation titled Beowulf Intro FA20.pptx (Anglo-Saxons folder on Google drive). 4. Watch the video Documenting Beowulf.mp4 (Anglo-Saxons folder on Google drive) and FIX the bibliographic citation that you created last week. 5. Submit your revised citation in U1L3A1. 6. You will need to navigate to our Class Notebook to start working on your vocabulary journal. You should have received an email to your student email address. It might allow you to link directly to the notebook. If it does, SAVE THE LINK. If it doesn't, follow these directions. To get to your Class Notebook, log in to Office 365 at https://login.microsoftonline.com/login.srf. You should have received an email to your student email address. Click on Class Notebook (if you don’t see it, you may need to select All apps to get it to display). 8. Hopefully, you should see your notebook. If you don’t try the options to File, Open, or look for an option that says Shared. You are looking for “FA20 # Pd Class Notebook.” 9. In your notebook, go to the Vocabulary Journal section and create your first page, titled 1 Sep. 2020. This is where you will create your first vocabulary journal, which is due 1 Sep. 2020. In order to complete today’s assignment, you will need to go to the Google Drive --> Anglo-Saxons folder and get these two files:

When you get to a Video slide, you can watch the video it refers to. The videos are in the same folder in the Google drive. Complete these assignments: U1L1A1: It’s a Matter of Perspective Our analysis of literature this semester will focus on perception. Our experiences have given each one of us a unique perspective. We have formed interests and dislikes, sometimes strong ones, based on our experiences. Read the information about Reader-Response Criticism in the U1 Reader-Response Criticism P19.jpg file or on page 19 of your text. For this assignment, identify some subjects that you have strong opinions about based on your experiences. The opinions you hold on these subjects are likely to affect the way you respond to texts that deal with those subjects. U1L1A2 Reader-Response Criticism 1. Review the different types of Literary Criticism on pages 7-8 of your text. (Literary Theory PP7-8.pdf) 2. For this assignment, tell which literary criticism, based on the descriptions in the document, you are likely to find the most challenging. Why do you think you will find that particular perspective challenging? U0L2A1 Email and Daily Procedure
1. First, review the Virtual Learning Expectations MC2.pdf and, if you weren’t present for the Live discussion at the beginning of class, watch the Guidelines for the Virtual Classroom video. Both are in the main directory of the Google drive. 2. Following the email guidelines presented in class (and in the video), send me an email listing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places you should look each day at the beginning of class. Then (also in the email), tell me what you should do (where you should go) if CTLS doesn’t appear to be working. U0L2A2: Plagiarism Watch the brief video on plagiarism. Then, in the assignment text box, tell me what you will need to do differently from what you’ve done before in order to protect against plagiarism. If you are completing your assignments outside CTLS because CTLS is down, you may send me your response in an email. Please use the assignment name as the title of your email. U0L2A3: Documenting a Source 1. In Resources, or on the class web site/Google drive (main directory), locate the Essay Guide (titled Your Essay and Multimedia Project Guide Ver. 9.pdf). 2. Use the Table of Contents in the Essay Guide to find the section titled “MLA Format: Step-by-Step Bibliographic Citations.” The page numbers in the Table of Contents are hyperlinks that will take you directly to the appropriate section if you click on them. 3. In the first unit, we will be using an online version of Beowulf.
